STRATEGIC AIMS 

  • Create a broad international network of higher education (HE) institutions that educate students in the areas of filmmaking, sound design, film music composition and sound arts with a view to improving the awareness of music and sound design as integral narrative tools to the storytelling process 

  • Foster and maintain an active and vibrant exchange between HE institutions and industry engaging in teaching and research of sound arts and related fields 

  • Provide a forum for interdisciplinary dialogue between HE institutions and students within the media music and sound arts industry

OBJECTIVES 

  • Seek out relevant, global, industry-facing pedagogic and learning content and required skillsets

  • Knowledge exchange: teaching and learning, developments in theory and practice, research 

  • Engage in an active dialogue with industry professionals 

  • Listen to feedback from International HE institutions, teaching faculty, researchers, students and professionals

  • Identify and understand the underlying challenges facing International institutions and professionals in the creation of good practice

  • Lead in the development of new teaching, research and learning cultures and their implementation toward improved professional practice

  • Forge new collaborative links between HE institutions, programmes and courses across continents

  • Bridge inter-disciplinary boundaries and deconstruct established modes of practice 

  • Share resources between students, professionals and institutions to aid collaborations

  • Seek to endorse and enable projects that represent inclusivity and diversity of all backgrounds, in particular those including female, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), disabled and LGBTI, as they are under-represented in media music fields so far.

Regional Associations

To enable IMMSANE to achieve its objectives, IMMSANE might establish Regional Associations so that all the members may be affiliated to one. Where a regional association has been established, its role shall be to enact and further the spirit and aims of IMMSANE within the specific conditions of that region.

Soundtrack Cologne

SoundTrack_Cologne is one of the most important media music and sound design industry events in Europe and is the patron and host of IMMSANE (AcadeMeet) since 2014. IMMSANE Europe was founded 2014 during Soundtrack Cologne as the EEAMS (European Education Alliance for Music and Sound in Media). When IMMSANE was founded in October 2020 at the Zurich University of the Arts (and during the 1st Soundtrack Zurich), EEAMS became IMMSANE Europe.

Zurich Film Festival

Zurich Film Festival is a relatively young film festival that has developed to achieve a great impact in recent years. ZFF hosted the IMMSANE Zurich 2020 as part of their festival program between the 1st - 4th of October 2020 in collaboration with SoundTrack_Zurich. SoundTrack_Zurich hosts IMMSANE since October 2020.

Festival  International  Music  &  Cinema  Marseille

The Festival International Music & Cinema Marseille (formerly the Festival International du Film d'Aubagne) is dedicated to the relation between music and image. Presenting both, short and feature film competitions, an original music score or a special work on sound creation is always the lead.

The Festival International Music & Cinema Marseille is also an important support for young international film creation and film music composers. Presenting masterclasses of composition, seminars, round tables, ciné-concerts, the Festival has also developed many professional meetings initiatives such as the European Market for Film Music Composition.

Avid Learning

Avid Learning is a platform to further your knowledge of arts, culture, design, literature, NFT, AI, and more via engaging and informative series, interactive sessions, and renowned experts through upcoming events and workshops in Mumbai and India. Avid Learning is cooperating with IMMSANE to develop projects, links, and expand our network in India.

Zurich University of the Arts

The Zurich University of the Arts is one of the major Universities of the arts in Europe with a strong media music and sound department. Study and research programmes at ZHdK cover areas of design, film, fine arts, music, dance, theatre, transdisciplinary studies and the teaching of arts and design. The Zurich University of the Arts, Composition for Film, Theatre and Media supported IMMSANE by providing academic hosting for IMMSANE events during SoundTrack_Zurich since 2020.

International Film Music Competition

The International Film Music Competition takes place since 2012, collaborating with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and forumfilmmusik to provide one of the most important film music competitions in which the finalists are performed by live orchestra to screen at a special event in Zurich during the Zurich Film Festival.

Oticons Faculty International Film Music Competition

This competition has become one of the world’s leading International film music competitions through it’s unique profile which mentors each yearly competition winners through representation and career development. Oticons Faculty collaborates with IMMSANE in our congresses since IMMSANE 2020.

MIMM Music Institute Multimedia Music

MiMM (Music Institute Multimedia Music) is the Dutch institution for media music and its creators and performers. MiMM produces yearly a variety of projects such as cinema concerts, multimedia nights, research projects and the English language online platform Private Kitchen (www.privatekitchen.nl).

MSCN Film Music Festivals Academy

The MSCN Film Music Festivals Academy is a unique initiative to support media music professionals and recent graduates to introduce their work to industry professionals and the festival-going public at leading European film music festivals. This programme focusses on improving the professional qualifications of aspiring media music composers through online group sessions, intensive 1-2-1 mentorship sessions and active projects in collaboration with the leading European film music festivals. The aim is to create a faultless portfolio of media music skills tailored to your individual abilities, then to develop effective interpersonal skills, networking skills and apply these at a major festival to kick-start your career. Through in-depth mentoring, you can work intensively on your technical and creative “blind-spots” while improving your general media music compositional skills.

Krakow Film Music Festival (FMF)

Krakow Film Music Festival is one the world’s largest festivals dedicated to film music. The festival is accompanied by exhibitions, concerts, open-air shows and meetings with artists. Every year, the festival is visited by approximately 900 Polish and international guests: directors, producers, festival programmers and numerous Krakow audience.

Nordic Film Music Days

Since 2010, Nordic composers have joined forces to put focus on Nordic Film Music and Nordic Film with the HARPA Nordic Film Composers Award. From 2016 the HARPA Nordic Film Music Days and the HARPA Nordic Film Composers Award have been taking place at the Nordische Botschaften in Berlin in the same time as the Berlinale film festival. With new collaborators within the Norwegian and the Finnish Music export offices our event has been seriously strengthened. HARPA Nordic Film Music Days and Composer Award is supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Nordische Botschaften.

Nederlands Film Festival (NFF)

The Netherlands Film Film Festival is both the home of Dutch cinema and the leading platform for the Netherlands’ national film culture. It celebrates the achievements of Dutch filmmakers and provides the bridge between film culture and all facets of Dutch society. The festival is the most powerful tool we have to engage a large and varied audience in everything that Dutch cinema has to offer. The Netherlands Film Film Festival has hosted the 2022 IMMSANE congress in collaboration with HKU / University of the Arts Utrecht.
